“As a vestibular therapist, I work to provide individualized treatment as well as education and reassurance. When you feel dizzy, disoriented and off balance, it can be overwhelming and each person experiences the symptoms they face differently. It is exciting to look at all the pieces of the puzzle and develop a plan that fits each person’s needs.”

My Personal Story

Sherry graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1998. Her interests during physical therapy school included pediatrics and vestibular rehabilitation. She was able to explore both specialties during a clinical rotation at New York University/Rusk Institute in New York City in 1997. After graduation, Sherry accepted a position at NYU/Rusk Institute initially working in pediatric rehabilitation and finally in vestibular rehabilitation. She completed the Herdman Vestibular Competency course in 2001 and received her certification.

Sherry moved to Seattle in 2001 and continued to focus on both the vestibular and pediatric populations in a general outpatient setting. She helped educate physical therapy colleagues with lectures and in-service presentations about vestibular rehabilitation.  In 2004, Sherry took a leave of absence from physical therapy to start a family.  When her youngest son reached kindergarten age, she returned to physical therapy and vestibular rehabilitation. She continued to be interested in pediatrics as well and was able to marry both specialties by completing a Pediatric Vestibular Competency course and certification in 2012.

“I enjoy bringing together my experience in pediatrics and vestibular rehabilitation to provide evidence-based care for the difficulties children encounter in their daily lives of school and play. I love the challenge of making the treatment age-appropriate and fun while being therapeutic. It helps me continue to learn and grow as a therapist.”

Sherry continues to expand her knowledge of the field of vestibular rehabilitation by attending continuing education courses and national conferences around the country. Her participation in study groups facilitates discussion of vestibular issues with colleagues around Seattle. She believes that staying informed and in touch with other therapists about the latest research developments and treatment options is important to her professional growth and beneficial to her patients.

Outside of the clinic, Sherry enjoys spending time with her family. They like traveling to new places, camping, playing games, reading and watching movies together. Sherry also loves photography, running and reading.
